In March of 2015, Mr. Haney successfully defended and achieved a full dismissal of a high profile Racketeering case of a Detroit area business owner allegedly operating a criminal enterprise. The case received international attention as one of the few occasions, in the history of Detroit, where one accused of conducting a criminal enterprise was fully exonerated with a dismissal of all charges. In the past decade, Mr. Haney has been retained in both state and Federal high profile white-collar criminal cases.
In April of 2019, Mr. Haney represented aspiring NBA Agent Christian Dawkins in what was characterized by ESPN as the "Biggest Trial in the History of Sports." Prosecuted in the Southern District of New York, Dawkins was acquitted on four of six felony charges before a Manhattan jury and found not guilty on all charges of wire fraud. The month-long trial was historic in that it was the first time a sports agent professional was federally charged and acquitted of wire fraud.
No stranger to basketball, Mr. Haney attended San Jose State University, wherein 1989 he led the men's basketball team in scoring with a 17 ppg scoring average, setting multiple school records for scoring proficiency. To date, his .462 career long-distance accuracy ranks him as one of the premier shooters in the history of Division I basketball and one of only a handful of basketball players ever to score 1,000 career points in less than two seasons.
A certified NBA player agent, Mr. Haney currently represents numerous NBA players and has also represented two Hall of Fame basketball players, including NBA legend Magic Johnson, where he orchestrated Johnson's 1999 comeback to basketball with the Swedish Professional team Magic M7. Mr. Haney served as the Magic M7 General Manager, as well as representing Atlanta Hawk icon and fellow Hall of Famer Dominque Wilkins and former NBA All-Star Kenny Anderson.
In June of 2022, Mr. Haney negotiated the largest shoe contract in basketball history, for a non-draft eligible basketball player, inking a multi-year/multi-million dollar endorsement contract with Puma for client Scoot Henderson. The deal was unparalleled in scope for Henderson, who is currently projected to be the top pick in the 2023 NBA draft.
Mr. Haney is licensed to practice law in both the State of Michigan and the State of Arizona, as well as Federal Courts in the United States Eastern District, Southern District of New York, 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals of New York and South Carolina Federal Court.
